Pneuma de la villa Rovéréaz. Réhabilitation énergétique d’une villa lausannoise du 19e siècle

"Pneuma" is a Greek word meaning "breath," encompassing air, spirit, and soul. Italian Renaissance architects, like Palladio, emphasized ventilation in their buildings for both health and comfort. The study focuses on a villa in the heights of Lausanne, within the Rovéréaz farm. Housing an association, it includes a cellar, office floors, and volunteer accommodations. Built in the 19th century and renovated in 1993 after a period of neglect, the villa still faces issues with air circulation, leading to humidity, overheating in summer, and cold, unusable rooms in winter. Drawing on bioclimatic principles from Renaissance villas, the project offers passive, historically-inspired solutions to enhance occupants' comfort and reduce energy use for heating, ventilation, or air conditioning. Informed by resident discussions, heat flow simulations, and ambiance assessments, the project aims to enrich the sensory experience by integrating air, sunlight, and water inside the villa. Proposed interior and façade interventions aim to make the building more open to climatic elements, creating distinct atmospheres and seasonal uses.

Vivre seuls ensemble. Une architecture à usage mixte et communautaire à la Servette

In 2019, residents of an apartment block in La Servette, a working-class neighborhood in Geneva, were forced to evacuate due to a risk of collapse. The mixed-use building housed several businesses, including major brands. Its demolition began in January 2021. The "Vivre seuls ensemble" (Live Alone Together) project proposes an alternative building and communal living by offering "clusters" – apartment types consisting of micro-living spaces known as "private units," "suites," or "rooms" within a shared area. This concept embodies sharing, community, and social interaction. The "clusters" provide inhabitants with privacy (live alone) while maintaining a sense of community (together). Common areas are not only for residents but also open to those from neighboring buildings, connected at certain floors. The ground floor is designed to be open and interactive with the public, with an accessible courtyard that can host a market.
