Langley Vale Visiting Center
The design of the Langley Vale visitor center is multifaceted, enhancing the local ecosystem and fostering interactions among visitors, plants, and animals. It features diverse surfaces for engagement, offering both intimate and broad woodland views through varying window sizes. Wood is the primary material for structure and cladding, with a reinforced core—potentially using cross-laminated timber (CLT)—to manage the load from planted areas. To prevent water damage, the center is raised, with a sloped, accessible exterior that includes an amphitheater and a terrace blending into the roofline. The entrance is strategically placed for visibility from the main approach, capturing northeastern views and connecting to southern trails. The design integrates Langley Vale's native habitats, consciously placing plant and animal areas to avoid disturbance by visitors, with species-specific considerations informing the placement to ensure optimal sunlight.
